Everex’s TC2502 gPC is the first mass-market $200 desktop computer, featuring a custom distribution of Ubuntu Linux and headed for selected Wal-Mart stores.
"It’s $200, with no gimmicks or subsidies," Everex spokesman David Liu said.
The gPC aims to joins a popular gang of low-end economy computers leading into the holiday season, such as Asus’ $300 EeePC Laptop and VIA’s $600 Nanobook.

Finally getting the street cred that its creators have so long desired, the multi-platform, distributed computing network known as is to be recognized by Guinness World Records. According to the group, the network is now the most powerful distributed computing cluster in the world. The system, which utilizes the power of more than 670,000 PS3s, PCs, and lawnmower motors to crunch data, has overall computational capabilities greater than a petaflop (which is a ton of flops). Still several years away from a commercial release, the company’s flexible, wireless patch — also capable of serving as a dedicated heart rate monitor — sends ECG or EMG (muscular) data in a continuous stream to either a PC or data logger for later downloading. We haven’t heard of Dutch design outfit Crealev before, but the company says it’s developed a “new levitation concept which is able to produce a very high levitation height combined with a low power dissipation and excellent stability” — and apparently the best way to show that off is this series of levitating lamps.
